Corpus Christi is known as Texas Riviera for good reason: the city is surrounded by pristine beaches. Whether your family is looking for a day in the sun, a camping trip, an adventure to an aircraft carrier-turned-museum, or somewhere to go kayaking, there's a Corpus Christi beach for you.
Discover the Great Beaches of Texas Riviera
How many cities have a beach right downtown? Well, we're not sure, but we know Corpus Christi does! Magee Beach is a small beach located right downtown. It's a great place for kids, since its waves aren't too rough. Many people take advantage of the convenient location and windsurf and wakeboard after work. If you'd rather your beach day be a bit more educational, take the kids to Corpus Christi Beach. This beach, sometimes called North Beach, provides easy access to both the USS Lexington Museum (which includes an iMax theater) and the Texas State Aquarium. Corpus Christi beaches also include University Beach and Emerald Beach.
North Padre Island has some of Texas' most beautiful and untouched beaches. Padre Island National Seashore stretches on for more than 65 miles, and there's no shortage of outdoor activities on its shoreline. Visitors can enjoy wind surfing, kayaking, fishing, bird watching and camping in and out of RVs. Malaquite Beach, a hidden gem, is one of the most pristine undeveloped beaches in the state. Visitors can spend the day collecting unbroken shells, observing sea turtles and other wildlife, and soaking up some rays. Many people bring their RVs here and camp out, while others camp without any modern conveniences. If camping isn't your thing, there are plenty of hotels nearby. Other North Padre Island beaches include White Cap Beach, the Seawall, the South Packery Channel and Padre Balli Park.
Mustang Island beaches are a fisherman's paradise. Take Mustang Island State Park, for instance. It offers two distinct experiences, and both are a great way to spend the day with your family. The first takes advantage of the park's border with the Gulf of Mexico, which will allow you to enjoy a day at the beach playing water sports, and even spend the night camping, as the grounds have several campsites. The other side of the park is bordered by the Fish Pass Jetties. This is a pretty popular fishing spot, and there are even facilities where you can rent a rod and some tackle. This side of the park also includes the Paddling Loop, where you can kayak and do some fly-fishing. Mustang Island also includes Port Aransas Beach and the North Packery Channel.
