Before you move, whether it's across the country or just to a new home nearby, you likely feel overwhelmed with all you have to do before the Columbus movers show up on your doorstep. While you're putting your moving to-do list together, make sure that you complete these five tasks the week before you move to make your life easier once you're in your new home.
1. Transfer or Close Bank Accounts
If you currently bank with a regional or local institution that does not operate where you will be moving to, take a few minutes and close your current accounts and see what you can do to transfer your funds to a new bank near where you're moving. Oftentimes, banks will allow you to set up a new account over the telephone or online.
2. Find a New Pharmacy
If you take medication on a regular basis, you will need to send your information to a pharmacy in your new locale. Because this process involves getting in touch with your doctors, it's best to complete this task earlier in the week rather than later. Doing this will ensure you don't have to deal with your doctor's office and getting your information transferred after you've moved and are desperate for your medication.
3. Tag Your Furniture
Moving is often a hectic process. To help your Columbus movers know which furniture goes in which rooms in your new home, label your furniture. For example, if you want your couch to go in the front living room, put a tag on it that indicates this. This is a quick and easy process that will save you from needing to move your furniture around once again after you're all moved in.
4. Prepare a Survival Kit
It's hard to know which of your personal belongings to pack and which you should keep with you during the move. To make sure that you have everything you need, pack a survival kit that includes basic toiletries, a clean pair of clothes, and anything else you might need as you get started unpacking. If you have children, consider packing a bag for each of them that includes necessities in addition to a few of their favorite snacks, a fun activity, and new toy to keep them occupied.
5. Tie Up Odds and Ends
Do you have a shovel that you borrowed from a neighbor two months ago that's still sitting in your garage? What about a return you need to make at a nearby store in your area? Make a list of all of these things that you've needed to get done for a while. Then, if possible, spend an afternoon devoted to taking care of all of them. This will save you from the need to come back and take care of things where you used to live when you want to start getting your new home ready.
Moving isn't always a fun process, but that doesn't mean that it has to be a huge hassle. Make the moving process easier on yourself and get these five things checked off your list the week before you start packing your things up into the moving truck.
