Whether you have been in your Bixby home for years, or you are brand new in town, spring time means cleaning time. It is finally warm enough to open those windows and give your home a thorough cleaning. That means getting to those areas that are ignored all year long.
Cleaning the blinds is a chore that is put off time and time again. They get incredibly dusty, so it is an important task to get to when spring cleaning rolls around. Depending on just how dusty the blinds are, you might want to take them down and give them a good scrubbing. If this is the case, you will need to take the blinds off their hooks. Pull the blinds up so they are easy to manage. Then, open the brackets and slide the blinds out. You can scrub them in your tub or take them outside and hose them down. Either way, make sure to scrub each blind. Let them air dry before you hang them back up. If your blinds are not that dirty, you can use a feather duster and vacuum attachment to remove any dust that has built up.
The trash cans in your kitchen and bathrooms get a lot of use throughout the year. Take this time to give them a good cleaning. Bring them outside, and scrub them down with soapy water and antibacterial spray. Hose them down after and let them air dry before bringing them back inside.
Your mattress may be covered with a mattress protector and sheets, but dirt, dust and sweat can still build up. To combat this, strip everything off your mattresses, and liberally sprinkle baking soda all over their surfaces. Let it sit for about an hour, then vacuum it up. This will keep them fresh and help combat any odors.
Door frames and fans often get neglected, so make sure they get cleaned now! Fill a bucket with warm soapy water and use a rag to scrub away any dust. It is a good idea to scrub the baseboards throughout your home while you are at it.
Your home’s air vents also collect dust and dirt. The great thing about vents is that you can remove them. After you unscrew them, soak them in a bucket of warm soapy water. Use a toothbrush to scrub away any remaining dust particles.
Places like your medicine cabinet and under your bathroom and kitchen sink, collect random things throughout the year. While you are spring cleaning, make sure you sort through everything you have accumulated. Throw away old and expired cleaners and medicines, and combine duplicates to make extra room in these tight spaces. If these areas lack structure, you can buy plastic or wicker baskets to keep everything organized and in its place.
Spring cleaning can seem overwhelming, but it will make your home happier and healthier for your family. Who wants to breathe in last year’s dust? While we may neglect certain areas of the home throughout the year, take your Bixby moving company’s advice and do a deep clean this spring!
