Indian Hills is a delightful place to raise a family, away from the city, in a charming town that values nature. The community is known for its 75 acres of bridle trails where residents and visitors alike can ride horses and enjoy the picturesque landscape. Families also enjoy the amenities available at any one of the many wonderful parks, including basketball and tennis courts, soccer and lacrosse fields, baseball diamonds, nature trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
The Rowe Arboretum is a testament to the community's dedication to protecting the lush natural environment. Founded in 1926 by Stanley M. Rowe, Sr. and his wife Dorothy Snowden Rowe, the arboretum is open to the public with no admission fee. It's a non-profit supported by the generous donations of its patrons as well as an endowment. The welcoming community in Indian Hills strives to preserve the natural landscape of the area with progressive green initiatives so that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty the residents call home.
Indian Hills was first home to the Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware tribes. The villages from the Pickaway and Chillicothe came to hunt in the woods and fish in the clear stream. In 1787, Revolutionary War veteran Major Benjamin Stites was impressed by the beauty and strategic value of the area and convinced Judge John Symmes to purchase almost a million acres from the U.S. government. Major Stites then bought 10,000 acres of that parcel near the Ohio and Little Miami rivers, which eventually became the Indian Hills we know today.1
