All My Sons Boston Moving Company treasures the town of Dedham (pronounced deh-dm). Dedham was incorporated in 1636. It is located in Norfolk County, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Dedham's history dates back to 1635 where most of the town would grind corn using power generated from the Charles River. Soon there were industrial mills manufacturing cotton, wool, wire, carpets, cloth, nails, and stamped coins. The town started constructing churches and shops for the manufacturer workers. One of the oldest standing timber-framed houses, the Fairbanks House, is also located in Dedham and is now a museum. If you are interested in learning more about Dedham's history, visit one of the three districts, including Franklin Square-Court (also known as the Dedham Village Historic District), along with Connecticut Corner District and Federal Hill District.
There are several trails and outdoor recreational activities in Dedham. The largest open space is the Town Forest. There is also Culter Park that has a 9.5-mile walking loop and offers hiking, fishing, boating, and bird watching. Wilson Mountain has 120 acres of forest with the best panoramic view of Boston. There are also six parks with Dedham you can go to, including Sugrue Field/Dolan Recreation Center, Gonzalez Field, Condon Park, Fairbanks Park, Churchill Park, and Barnes Memorial Park. A town pool, called Anthony P. Mucciaccio Dedham Pool, resides on High Street.
There are numerous annual events in Dedham, Massachusetts. On the 14th of June, they have their annual Flag Day Parade. Then every Wednesday night throughout the summer, the Dedham Junior Women's Club offers a series of concerts known as the Arts at Endicott Summer Concert Series. On the 4th of July, the town has an annual road race to raise money for the Salley Naser Charitable Foundation, an organization set up for a young girl battling rare bone cancer. You won't want to miss the BSAAC Car Show held at the Endicott Estate at the end of July.
Dedham Pottery is notorious. The infamous Robertson Family were all potters. Hugh Robertson tried to carry on his father's legacy and wanted to perfect the "Robertson's Blood" glaze, an elusive red glaze. Instead, however, he became famous for the popular line of crackleware dinnerware with the crouching rabbit. Although there were other designs such as elephants, dolphins, polar bears, swans, and lilies, the crouching rabbit became known as the "Dedham rabbit." It was tragic when Hugh died of lead poisoning as a direct result of all his glaze experiments. But his legacy lives on in the minds of an international audience of collectors.
The town has its own special Dedham Day, which is held each year at John Barnes Memorial park. The Friends of Dedham Recreation and the Friends of the Dedham Pool hosts a day full of games, rides, crafts, shows, music, barbecue, and the annual memorial mega cow flap. For Halloween, the Dedham Square Circle partners with Fellowship Church and St. Luke's to host a fun-filled family day with a DJ, candy, and a bouncy house! For Thanksgiving, the town of Dedham has the Family Gratitude 5K Turkey Trot. Finally, for the Holidays, Dedham has the Holiday Stroll & Tree Lighting. All Merchants in Dedham Square offer special discounts, promotions, complimentary refreshments, free goodies, and raffles. Besides lighting the tree, the square is filled with street performers, roving carolers, and costumed characters.
