Annual Winter Holiday Events in Atlanta

Atlanta is magical during the holidays, so if you have recently relocated to Atlanta and are in the dark about what there is to do come Thanksgiving, Atlanta movers have created a list of annual Thanksgiving events in the city for you to check out and turn into your new, annual traditions after moving to Atlanta!

Light Up the Night – Light Up the Night is Atlanta’s largest and most celebrated annual Thanksgiving event. All Atlantans (even your Atlanta movers) gather around the Macy’s Christmas tree for the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting every year on Thanksgiving night at Lenox Square Mall. Although this is more of a Christmas event, it takes place on Thanksgiving and is the perfect annual Thanksgiving event in Atlanta to get your family in the holiday spirit after moving to Atlanta.

Macy’s Pink Pig - Open throughout the month of November all the way through the first week of January. This has been an annual Thanksgiving event in Atlanta and winter holiday tradition since the 1950’s. Take your family to tour the Lenox Square Mall and storybook land in the Pink Pig

The Stone Mountain Christmas Celebration – This is where Atlantans bring their families to meet Santa and Rudolph and to watch the featured movie of the year on the mountain in 4-D. Take a break from your move to Atlanta and wander through Wonderland Walkway’s dazzling lights.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - A timeless 1964 film that families of all ages enjoy watching during each Christmas season. No matter how old you may be getting, the 1964 classic is always a holiday favorite. View a showing of the film at The Center for Puppetry Arts. This annual Thanksgiving event in Atlanta commences each year around the second week of November and lasts until the end of December.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze – This performance show is one that the Atlanta movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage want you to make sure you do not miss! This performance show/cirque show/Broadway musical/holiday spectacular is one-of-a-kind and truly magnificent. You can find it the day before and the day after Thanksgiving, at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre.

The Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon and 5K - Take your family to earn their Thanksgiving dinner by running the local half marathon. Give thanks for your health with this Atlanta run and register at www.atlantatrackclub.org.

Garden Lights in the Atlanta Botanical Garden – This annual Thanksgiving and winter holiday event in Atlanta is one where you can take a break from moving and be dazzled by lights, orbs, and a rainforest decorated in radiant holiday lights.

The Santaland Diaries – This has become one of the most cherished local tales and holiday theatre shows in Atlanta. The Santaland Diaries was written by comic David Sedaris and tells the tales of a worker’s experience as a Macy’s Department store elf during the holidays. For a good laugh, Atlanta movers recommend this show for the entire family to enjoy, and you can find it at Horizon Theatre.

Regardless of whether you recently moved to Atlanta, will be moving to Atlanta before Christmas, or have lived in the city for a long time and never knew how much there was to do around the holidays, be sure to check out the above annual events that take place in Atlanta from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.
