Ah, the garage. The huge space that you once envisioned of creating into a man-cave, a game room, or a perfectly organized storage space for your home, that has over time become a dusty room, full of piles of junk, unused appliances, old bikes, and who knows what else. Many people find packing up a home to be a long and tedious process, but everyone dreads packing up the garage. Packing a garage takes loads of time, energy, and motivation, which not a lot of people have after packing up everything else. Fortunately, All My Sons Moving & Storage has a team of Sarasota movers that can do it for you. If, however, you choose to DIY it, you may want to follow this guide.
Step 1: Start by conducting an inventory of what's in your garage. See if it's a task that you think you can do, or you want to pass on to your trusted Sarasota packing company. There's no move that we cant handle, trust us.
Step 2: CLEAN YOUR GARAGE. Sort everything out. Throw away anything that's broken, outdated, or so dusty that you cant even recognize what it was in the first place. Think about the things you no longer need or use, and sell, donate, or throw them out. This will lighten your moving load, and hopefully allow you to have a more organized garage in your new home.
Step 3: When you're ready to pack, you want to start with the proper packing supplies. Our Sarasota movers have all the supplies you need, from boxes, rolls of bubble wrap, protective padding, packing paper, bags, and strong tape. We don't recommend using those old, worn out boxes in the corner of the garage that are likely to fall apart the moment you pick them up.
Step4: Start with smaller items, and group similar items together. Keep tools with tools, garden tools with garden tools, appliances with appliances, cleaning products with cleaning products, and so on. Label each box so you know exactly whats in it when unpacking time comes.
Step 5: For larger items like garden tools (rakes, shovels, etc.) we suggest grouping the handles together, and then wrapping them in a bundle of old blankets or protective padding. This will help them from breaking and keep them from scratching other items.
Be aware that some items you may have in your garage are forbidden for transportation with most moving companies, for safety reasons. These include fuels, oil, paint, and any chemicals. You may want to give them to a neighbor, use them, or get rid of them before your moving truck arrives.
