Whether it’s just after New Year’s or slipping into February, the time has come for you to finally take your Christmas tree down. If you have an artificial tree, this means you can pack the tree away and use it again for more holiday seasons to come.
Turn on some music, enlist a friend or family member, and get ready to take your living room back.
Put away all your Christmas ornaments, garlands, tinsel, and any tree toppers before you tackle the tree itself. Make sure to comb through the branches thoroughly to keep from missing any stray hooks. Once the tree is bare and all your other Christmas ornaments are boxed up and ready for storage, you can proceed.
If your artificial Christmas tree comes in separate pieces you will need to disassemble them. Start by taking the top off the Christmas tree and then removing the middle piece. As you remove the pieces, proceed to step 3.
Start with the top piece of the tree and work your way down to the base. Compress smaller branches and then push the large branches toward the center of the tree according to their original orientation.
Once branches are squeezed together as tight as they will go, wrap your tree in plastic wrap. If you do not have plastic wrap, you can tie your tree sections together with multiple pieces of string or zip ties.
Once the tree is wrapped, be sure to vacuum any stray artificial pine needles on your floor.
This is the part that could be tricky. If you still have the tree’s original box, that would be the most appropriate container for it. However, if the tree no longer fits back in the box or the box has been damaged then you have a few options for alternatives.
Find a Christmas Tree Storage Container: You may be able to find a special storage bin or tote that will fit your Christmas tree. Measure the dimensions of your wrapped tree and search your favorite retailer’s website for “Christmas Tree Storage.”
Use a Mattress Bag: Mattress bags are a study storage container for your Christmas tree. Depending on the size of your tree, you can likely store it in a twin or full mattress bag.
Store Your Tree in a Wardrobe Box: Wardrobe boxes can accommodate most home artificial Christmas trees. Take the bar out of the wardrobe box and set it aside, then put your wrapped tree in the box.
Once your tree is in the appropriate container, you can store it in its designated hidden corner. Huzzah, the tree is packed!
Store your tree with the rest of your holiday decorations to await next year. If you have packed your tree properly, it should be able to emerge from hibernation in relatively the same condition. Enjoy having your living room space back until next year.
