Cleaning your home and making sure your living space is refreshed has never been more important than today. As all of us continue to go through the coronavirus pandemic and take all the necessary precautions to keep ourselves safe, many of us are still stuck at home. Now is a great time to do some deep cleaning. Sanitizing your house does take a bit of time and effort, but it is doable and totally worth it!
Disinfecting your home from harmful viruses has always been an important concern, but it is probably on top of your mind now as Americans are fighting against the spread of COVID-19. If either you or a loved one got infected with the coronavirus and stayed at home until recovery, freshening up and disinfecting your living space becomes even more critical. Whether you want to sanitize your home after illness or just want to do some intense spring cleaning, here are some helpful tips compiled by our South Charlotte residential movers.
While wearing protective equipment may not be necessary when doing a basic clean up, if you are planning to disinfect and sanitize your home after illness, it is needed. You want to protect yourself when cleaning infected bed sheets, clothes, rooms, and anything else a sick person came into contact with. Choose face masks with a filter and wear latex gloves. Wearing a plastic face shield provides even more layers of protection against the risk of getting the coronavirus.
While natural disinfecting cleaners like vinegar and “non-toxic” brands may have cut it before the pandemic, now you want to use disinfectants proven to work against the coronavirus. To ensure effective sanitation, use only disinfectant products registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and approved for use against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease. Click here to see the EPA's list of approved disinfectants. Here are some products that make the cut:
- Clorox Disinfecting Bleach
- Lysol Clean & Fresh Multi-Surface Cleaner
- Clorox Multi-Surface Cleaner + Bleach
- Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist
- Clorox Disinfecting Spray
- Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
- Lysol Disinfecting Wipes
When sanitizing your home, be sure to target highly used areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms. Disinfect surfaces that you touch often like doorknobs, desks, and mobile devices. Make sure to thoroughly wipe down food preparation areas like countertops and tables.
While there have not been any recent studies linking hot temperatures and steam cleaning to killing the coronavirus, both have been known to eliminate other kinds of bacteria and viruses. To boost your coronavirus cleaning methods, utilize hot temperatures in addition to following manufacturer's cleaning instructions whenever possible. Use your washing machine's hot water setting when cleaning clothes and go over carpets, fabric furniture, and hard surfaces with a stream cleaner after washing them with soap.
