If you have been watching the news lately, you have likely heard that to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, we need to be practicing social distancing, wearing face masks, and washing our hands often and thoroughly. Wearing a mask and gloves seems simple enough and it makes sense, but what is social distancing? It is a strange world to live in where you cannot stop by a friend's house to say “Hi” for their birthday or hug your family goodbye when you see them.
In the midst of all these changes and rules, there are a few new phrases people have been using and you may have questions. For instance, what is social distancing? Our Louisville local movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage can shed light on what it is and how to social distance properly.
Our Louisville movers care about the safety of our customers and are taking appropriate measures to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. In addition to wearing masks and gloves, our movers actively practice social distancing during every move.
so·cialdis·tan·cing
noun; medical
: the practice of maintaining a greater than usual distance (such as six feet or more) from other people or of avoiding direct contact with people or objects in public places during the outbreak of a contagious disease in order to minimize exposure and reduce the transmission of infection (Merriam-Webster)1
According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the coronavirus is thought to be transmitted between people in close proximity to one another, approximately within six feet, via talking, sneezing, or coughing.2 Even if people are not showing symptoms, it is still possible to spread the virus. Therefore, the CDC and World Health Organization advise people to remain at a distance, at least 6 feet apart, from others. The goal of social distancing is to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in the community by limiting physical contact with others.3.
To be sure that you know that you are social distancing properly, our Louisville residential movers share a guideline you can follow.
1. Be sure to stay 6 feet or more away from other people. For reference, 6 feet is about two arm's length.
2. Don't gather in groups.
3. Avoid crowded places and large gatherings.
Keeping a space between yourself and others is one of the main ways to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Another part of social distancing is making sure to limit close contact with others outside of your home, whether it's indoors at a store or outdoors in the park. It is possible for people to spread COVID-19 before showing any symptoms, so even if you are feeling your best, it is still important to wear a mask and continue social distancing. The CDC offers more in-depth information for those who may not be able to practice social distancing due to certain circumstances, such as caring for someone with a disability or living in shared housing, among others.4
